Coalition for Gun Control
"Dodge the Bullet "
Zulu Alpha Kilo

CASE SUMMARY

Many Canadians view gun violence as an American problem, but the issue often strikes closer to home. Toronto, for instance, has experienced a staggering rise in gun violence. In order to convey that message, the Coalition for Gun Control worked with Zulu Alpha Kilo on a digital tool that pulls data from the Toronto Public Safety Data Portal and calculates the distance (in metres) between a user’s current location and the closest shooting that has occured in the city. The campaign was part of the Coalition’s ongoing push to get residents to see how close they’ve come to dodging a bullet. The work led 23,000 people to sign a petition calling for lawmakers to pass gun control legislation.
